What does a Big Five personality test measure?
The Big Five describes personality across five broad dimensions, often remembered as OCEAN. Instead of sorting everyone into a small set of types, it gives you a separate score for each trait. You might enjoy new ideas and quiet evenings, or prefer structure while being highly sociable.

More useful than a single label.
Your free results include five scores on a 0–100 scale, trait explanations, and a downloadable summary. The longer assessment also shows 30 narrower facets, giving more detail within each broad trait.
A higher score is not automatically better. Your profile is a starting point for reflection: which descriptions fit your experience, when do they change, and which habits would you like to work on?
The scores describe your answers, not your rank against other people. A score of 75 is not the 75th percentile. Learn how to interpret your results →
Where the questions come from
The quick assessment uses 50 public-domain International Personality Item Pool (IPIP) statements: ten for each broad trait. Positive and reverse-keyed responses are combined, then rescaled to 0–100. The longer test uses the IPIP-NEO-120 items.
Read our methodology and scoring explanation for the original item sources and the limits of these assessments. For another perspective on personality frameworks, see Big Five vs MBTI.
Big Five personality test FAQ

Yes. Both the 50-question test and the 120-question test include free scores, explanations, and downloads. You do not need an account to take either test or view your results.
How long does the test take?
Allow about 7 minutes for 50 questions, or about 15 minutes for the 120-question assessment. Take enough time to choose the answer that best reflects your usual behavior.
Are Big Five and OCEAN the same thing?
OCEAN is an acronym for the five traits in the Big Five model: Openness, Conscientiousness, Extraversion, Agreeableness, and Neuroticism.
What does a score of 75 mean?
It means your answers produce 75 on our rescaled 0–100 response scale. It is not a percentile and does not mean you score higher than 75 percent of people.
How accurate are my results?
The questions use public-domain IPIP scales. Your results summarize your self-reported tendencies and can be affected by context and how you interpret a statement. This website has not independently validated its interface or interpretation bands.
Do I get a personality type?
Your main result is a profile across five continuous traits. Optional illustrated profiles summarize combinations of scores; they are not fixed scientific personality types.
Can I save my results?
